Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

a shell

If you are feeling stuck in a rut, and afraid to try something new, then this poem is for you!

My Comfort Zone

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn’t fail,
the same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before,
but stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much,
I said I didn’t care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
but deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn’t let my life go by just watching others win,
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I’d never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you’re in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true,
reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!

  1. Yes I recommend it and sometimes the comfort zone is a very uncomfortable place to be in. 4 years ago I turned my back on my well established career and a marriage. I thought “what ever the consequences, I choose to deal with them even if I end up penniless and alone!” I have thrived and my new life is turning out to be every thing I ever hoped for. It took (and takes) a lot of hard work though! I I love your blog!

    • Thank you so much for your always wonderful comments! I really appreciate your kind words, and am really delighted you are enjoying this blog! Your strength in leaving the situations that were detrimental to your well-being is truly inspirational. It doesn’t sound like the process was easy but how wonderful to hear how you faced your fears and chose to live your most authentic life possible!

  2. Such a beautiful and encouraging reminder. Thank you, Cathie! 🙂

Just recently I noticed again how many people seem to feel exactly like the person in the poem felt before choosing to step out of the old known comfort zone. And I admitt that this reminder also feels encouraging to me to venture “out there” even more.

Sending much love and wishing you a beautiful week,

    • Many thanks for your uplifting comments Steffi! Glad you feel encouraged by the reminder to step out of the familiar, and continue venturing “out there” into unfamiliar territory too! 🙂 Sending all the best, Cathie
